CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Republicans in Cabarrus County are looking for someone to take over the seat Larry Pittman left on the Board of Commissioners. Pittman's resignation took effect Sept. 30, according to the party.
The local GOP announced Thursday that it has opened an application process. Its executive committee plans to go through the submissions and put forward a nominee for appointment no later than Oct. 30, 2026, party officials said. The process follows state law and internal party rules.
Residents who were registered Republicans in the county on Oct. 30, 2025, may ask for a packet by emailing Chairman@cabarrus.gop. Each finished packet needs a cover letter, a resume and a vetting questionnaire for candidates. The deadline to turn it in is 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
Party Chairman Jim Quick thanked Pittman for his service. He said the party intends to run a careful and open process aimed at finding a conservative who will represent community values, according to the party.
