About Cabarrus Insider

Cabarrus Insider is an independent, automated local news service for Cabarrus County, North Carolina: Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Midland, Mount Pleasant, Locust and the unincorporated county.

We are not affiliated with any government agency, police or fire department, school system or utility. We are not an emergency service. If you have an emergency, call 911.

• Official alerts: National Weather Service warnings, Amber and Silver alerts, boil-water notices, school closings

• Weekly data posts: what's being built, restaurant grades, top home sales, weekend events, rezonings and council votes

How it works

Incident posts are written automatically from public safety radio traffic that anyone can legally listen to. Alerts, outages, traffic and data posts come from public records and official feeds (National Weather Service, NCDOT, utility outage maps, county and city records). Every post names its source.

Scanner-based posts are marked unconfirmed. Radio traffic is often incomplete, and first reports are sometimes wrong. We update posts as incidents develop and mark them cleared when units leave.

Our safety rules

• No names of people involved in incidents, and no mugshots. Ever.
• Arrests are reported only from official agency news releases, never from jail booking lists. Every arrest post says that charges are accusations and everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
• If charges are dismissed, you're acquitted, or the record is expunged, we'll update or remove the post for free. Request an update or removal. We never charge to remove or update a post.
• Reader photos are published only after a person reviews them, with the sender's permission.
• Missing-person notices use the name and photo the agency released, and nothing about health.
• Locations are block level only, never a house number.
• Police activity is only posted after units are on scene and at least 30 minutes have passed.
• No medical details, no information about minors, nothing from encrypted or private channels.
• When in doubt, we skip it. A missed post costs nothing; a wrong one costs trust.
• Errors are corrected quickly and visibly. See our corrections policy.
