The Cabarrus County Board of Education meets Monday, October 12 at 6:00 PM at Education Center Board Room. Here's what's on the agenda:

  • Concord High chiller replacement project. The board will consider a $2,180,125 phase to replace the cooling chillers, controls and pumps in Buildings 100 and 200. Staff say the equipment has long lead times, so approval this month would allow installation next summer. About $5 million would remain in the school's HVAC renovation budget afterward.
  • Last year's surplus and fund balance. The chief financial officer will present the 2025-26 surplus and fund balance. The board will be asked to approve two purchase recommendations in the 2026-27 budget.
  • Consent agenda. budget, calendar and athletic trainer: Items bundled for a single vote include the initial 2026-27 budget resolution, an additional Atrium athletic trainer for 2026-27 and the proposed 2027-2028 school calendar.
  • Policy changes on materials and public comment. First readings are planned for policies on public participation at board meetings, selection of instructional materials, and parent objections to instructional and library materials. The consent agenda adds first readings on fund balance, program choice and religious-based exemptions, and repeals of two policies on minority-owned and historically underutilized business participation.
  • Resolution supporting Solly's Law. The Legislative Agenda Committee will bring a resolution for the board to consider that backs Solly's Law.
  • 2026-27 school improvement plans. The board will review the timeline and process for the plans, then vote on approving them. Staff say each school's leadership team has vetted them.

Items are proposals until the board votes. Source: Cabarrus County Board of Education agenda.
