KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The Kannapolis City Council has approved $58,000 in 2026-2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for 18 community organizations. The money is meant for activities that benefit low- and moderate-income residents of Kannapolis.
The largest awards, $4,000 each, went to Cabarrus Health Alliance for dental services for uninsured Kannapolis City Schools students, and to Conflict Resolution for its Teen Court and Truancy program. Cooperative Christian Ministry, Families First, Rowan Helping Ministries, The Suda Institute and Vision for Life also received $4,000 each. Their programs cover crisis help for families, home-based child care networks, a physician-led program for people facing housing instability, and youth mentoring.
Other grants range from $2,000 to $3,000. Recipients include Academic Learning Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Classroom Central, Lock N Key, El Puente Hispano, the Rowan Cabarrus YMCA, AYA House, Bethel Baptist Church, Faith Fellowship Church, Peek Next Gen and The S.T.U.D.I.O. Their work includes tutoring, school supplies, afterschool and summer programs, homeless outreach and transitional housing.
The funds come from the federal CDBG program, which sends money to Kannapolis each year for nonprofits serving residents in need. The Community Improvement Commission and city staff review applications and make funding recommendations to City Council.
